MICHAEL TWERY BRIEF BIO 2007
Michael Twery is a versatile visual artist who is currently working with abstract oil paintings and cut-out paintings with acrylics on wood. He also creates mixed media assemblage sculpture and installations. Mr. Twery works professionally, doing drawing, painting, and sculpture commissions.
He studied at Rhode Island School of Design and San Francisco Art Institute, where he received his M.F.A. in painting in 1983.
Mr. Twery has exhibited his work in both California and Virginia. He has shown at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Rental Gallery, The Diego Rivera Gallery, and St. Mary’s College in the San Francisco Bay area; and at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, Lynchburg College, Roanoke College, the Lynchburg Fine Arts Center, Lynchburg Art Club, the University of Virginia, McGuffey Art Center, and the Second Street Gallery in Virginia. He has created art commissions for Coleman-Adams Construction, Boys & Girls Club of Lynchburg, Meriwether’s Market Restaurant, Hardee’s Corporation, Forest Elementary School, Lynchburg Peace Education Center, Given’s Books, Craddock Terry Hotel & Conference Center, and several private individuals.
Mr. Twery has taught art for over 20 years, and has served as an artist-in-residence several times in various locations around Virginia. He is also a member of CLUB CONGA, an improvisational percussion ensemble that has performed at his installation openings and at numerous college concerts, public music festivals and school assemblies around Central Virginia.
